What are the team restrictions?
To compete in a country’s national league, at least 50% of players on the team roster must be from that country. In some circumstances, such as with established professional teams, the team’s country of registration will be the criteria for which national league to play in. Once a team has chosen a national league, they must continue playing there.
What are the prizes?
Prize pools for each national league will be determined by the league organizers and are typically set from season to season. The Regional or continental championships will, however, have much large prize pools, as they will have the very best teams from each country compete against each other.
How do the leagues work?
Every particular league is played seasonally, meaning that new seasons start one or more times per year for the foreseeable future. Every league is also scalable, able to accommodate as many teams as necessary – split up into multiple skill-based divisions. Teams will move up and down between divisions depending on their skill level and the competition they face.
At the end of every season, teams can either get promoted to the division above, remain in their current one or get demoted to the division below. The best teams/players of the top division in every league will play in a Regional Championship where the best of the best are crowned each year.
How many divisions are there in a league?
The number of divisions will depend on the number of participating teams, which game the league is for, and how long each season is. Every division, except the top 1-2 divisions, are subdivided into a number of groups. For every new division, the number of groups doubles meaning that there are few groups in the top divisions and many groups in the bottom divisions. A group will typically contain anywhere from 8-16 teams depending on the size of the league overall.
Is there a skill-cap or a skill requirement?
Teams of any skill level are able and urged to join. As the seasons progress, the best teams will climb steadily upwards. Other teams will find their place in the hierarchy of divisions, competing at a level appropriate to their skill, time commitment, and resources, etc. Crucially, however, all teams regardless of their skill level or current resources will be playing within the same overall league.
Can new teams join after the league has started?
New teams can join at the start of every season and will typically have to start playing in the lowest division. There is a pre-qualifier played at the beginning of each season that is used to determine the relative skill levels of the new teams.
